The SAARC Terrorist Offences Monitoring Desk (STOMD) was established in Colombo in 1995.
The objectives of the Desk are to collate, analyze and disseminate information on terrorist offences, tactics, strategies and methods.
The Workshop on Strengthening the SAARC Terrorist Offences Monitoring Desk (SDOMD) was held in New Delhi on 24 February 2007.
The Meeting discussed at length the matters relating to strengthening STOMD and made recommendations for further strengthening of STOMD.
The Meeting of Focal Points of SAARC Drug Offences Monitoring Desk (SDOMD) and SAARC Terrorist Offences Monitoring Desk (STOMD) were held on 20 October 2007 in Islamabad.
The Third Meeting of SAARC Terrorist Offences Monitoring Desk (STOMD) was held on 23 June 2010 in Islamabad. At this Meeting, the Member States decided to share information on a real time basis and to exchange data on many related areas such as photographs of terrorists, terrorist incidents and the profile of terrorists with STOMD Desk in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Action to be taken to improving/secure data exchanged through the networking among police authorities was another issue that was discussed at length.
The Fourth Meeting of the Focal Points of SAARC Terrorist Offences Monitoring Desk (STOMD) was held in Colombo on 4 April 2011. While discussing the measures to further improve the functioning of STOMD, the Member States discussed the need to comprehensively review the existing mechanisms to share information in a secure manner in view of the current trends in terrorism and its related offencesand for the information to be shared on a real time/ near real time basis.
