Director Education Security and Culture

Ms. Muthukumarana joined the SAARC Secretariat on 17th August 2018 as Director for Education, Security and Culture. 

She began her career in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 2000 as an Assistant Director attached to the Economic Affairs Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since then, she has served in several Divisions of the Ministry including the Americas Division, Public Communications and Overseas Sri Lankans Division, and the Dy. Minister’s Bureau. Her most recent assignment in the Ministry prior to joining the SAARC Secretariat was as Director of the State Minister’s Bureau. 

Ms. Muthukumarana has served two postings, both at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the UN, New York, handling issues related to the First Committee (Disarmament), Second Committee (Economic and Financial), Sixth Committee (Legal), UN peacekeeping and UN elections. 

Ms. Muthukumarana has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from the University of Colombo and a Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) degree from Georgetown University, Washington DC.
