Mr. Sangye Chewang
Director Environment, Natural Disaster and Biotechnology

Mr. Sangye Chewang joined the SAARC Secretariat in January 2018 as Director, Environment, Natural Disaster and Biotechnology Division.

Prior to his current appointment at the SAARC Secretariat, Mr. Chewang served as the Chief of the Department of SAARC & Regional Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Royal Government of Bhutan. 

Mr. Chewang joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2009 and served in the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh and Brussels, Belgium.

He has participated in various regional and international meetings.  He has also attended short-term courses in The Hague, The Netherlands and Hawaii, Honolulu.

Mr. Sangye Chewang has Bachelor’s Degree (B. Com) from Sherubtse College, Kanglung, Bhutan.  He has a Master’s Degree in Economics from Wye College, University of London.  He is the recipient of the Clayton Award 1998 for academic excellence. 

He is married with two sons and a daughter and enjoys reading, hiking and travelling.
