Mr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed

Director Agriculture, Rural Development and SAARC Development Fund

Mr. Jamal Uddin Ahmed joined the SAARC Secretariat on 06 January 2021.

Mr. Ahmed is a career diplomat. Prior to joining the SAARC Secretariat, he served the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh as Director (Americas), Director (Foreign Minister’s Office) and Director (SAARC). He earlier served in the Administration Wing,

Multilateral Economic Affairs Wing and UNCLOS Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Assistant/Senior Assistant Secretary.

Besides, Mr. Ahmed served in the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York from 2012 to 2015 as First Secretary where he represented Bangladesh in the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee), Administrative & Budgetary Committee (Fifth Committee), Legal Committee (Sixth Committee) of the United Nations General Assembly. Later, he was posted at the Bangladesh High Commission to India in New Delhi where he served from 2015 to 2019 as Counsellor dealing with various issues of Bangladesh-India bilateral relations.

He received MBA and Bachelor degree from Dhaka University, Bangladesh. He is married with three daughters.
